Important Meeting:

We would greatly appreciate it if you and your children, grandchildren, neighbors and community members that support the Ojai Skate Park could join us next week at the OUSD School Board meeting. It's really important that we go to this meeting and show how supported and important the Ojai skate park is to our community and see the latest plans of the Ojai skate park that our community donated $ 261,000 in 6 months time (totaling $361,00 with the city of Ojai's donation of $100,000) for the children to have a concrete skate park.

Dale Summersille the City of Ojai Recreation Director, Kanten Russell of Site Design and a member of Skate Ojai will be making the presentation of the Ojai Skate Park Project to the school board.

  • Tuesday, April 14th.
  • 7:00 pm. (meeting begins right at 7:00pm. and there will be one presentation before the Skate Park item on the agenda)
  • 414 E. Ojai Ave. in Board Room #1 (OUSD offices/Chaparral location)

At this presentation Dale will review the latest conceptual design, review the proposed rules for the day to day operations, overview of the budget, and review the budget highlights.

Things have been happening behind the scenes and Dale wrote down a couple of them so you can see that the ball is rolling.

Skate Park Road Trip!! (Postponed - till Thursday)

Skate Park Road Trip

During the upcoming school break Moe and I wanted to organize another road trip to Fillmore since all the boys had such a great time. Honestly we did too. Watching them skateboard skate was really fun.

The Ventura Unified school district only gets Friday, Feb. 13th and Monday, Feb 16th. off and Ojai is out for the full week of the 16th.-the 20th. That hopefully means that there won't be to crowded at the Fillmore skate park.

So, I'm taking the day off on Tuesday, February 17th, - Postponed till Tursday, 19th!! We will once again meet at 9:00am at the Ojai skate park and head out to Fillmore for the day. Probably leaving there around 1 or 2 and dropping the kids off back at the skate park.

Volunteer Drivers
Tobi Green Room for 4
Sunday Rylander Room for 3
Moe Room for 4
Judy Gabriel Room for 7
Zander Gabriel Car full of skate team guys (but we still need more cars for the skate team-11 kids now on the team) Shepherd might be able to drive.

The last time we went we almost didn't have enough cars. If you can drive let me know and how many seats you have available.

This time I want the parents to confirm with me so we have room for everyone, so give me a call if your child wants to come. 805-216-6996.

Bring your board, helmet, pack a lunch or bring $5.00 and we will run over to one of the local restaurants and get some take out.

Take care,
Sunday

Ojai Skate Park Clean Up

Saturday, December 13th.
9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Snacks & Drinks provided!

Update on the Day from Sunday:

I wanted to send an email to everyone and let you know about the great turn-out of people we had this Saturday and how much fun we had and accomplished together.

Even though I originally thought 9:00 am. to 1:00 would be enough time, it wasn't and everyone was on a roll working so hard to complete several projects that we didn't finish until at least 5:00 pm. The entire time we had several projects going on with over 40 kids through out the day participating with several adults leading the projects.

This is a list of what we did on Saturday.

* Filled over 13 bags of leaves.
* Painted the front, back and sides of the half pipe. Getting rid of the existing graffiti and giving it a new fresh look.
* Fixing any screws sticking out on the half pipe and other ramps.
* Fixed the fence so it's safe.
* Pulled off the skate lite and rotten wood from a large piece of one of the transitions. We laid down new plywood and painted it, then used the skate lite for a new feature in the skate park.
* Cleaned out all the trash behind the wall. We found two bike racks and pulled them into the skate park and the kids immediately started using them to put there bikes in.
* Created a new ramp in the right corner of the park so the kids have a new feature as well as something to replace the pyramid that was taken away a while back.
* Weeding the planter on the back wall.
* Picked up trash from in and around the skate park.
* Replaced railing around the skate park that was missing.
* Cleaned up old wood and materials at the skate park.

It was such a great experience and the kids were stoked to get the park back in shape since we will be using it for the next 7 months until demo starts on the new concrete skate park.

Once again we were able to pull it off with no budget, donations from the many skate park supporters and some hard work. A special Thank you to the parents who hung out all day and shared their time and skills with everyone. Wendy Hilgers, Dave England, Mark Highlove, Carl Rylander, Moe, Michael Meagher, Judy Gabriel, Bobbi Woodz and Joanna England.

Donations and help came in many forms on Saturday. Some people couldn't make it that day and pulled up and dropped off donations to purchase wood (Thanks Tonya!). Ojai Coffee Roasting donated coffee to keep us going, someone donated two dozen donuts, Frontier paint donated paint and supplies, Moe made yummy cookies, Dave brought his boom box so the day was filled with tunes, Judy donated a huge ice chest of juice, water and sodas, several people chipped in to pay for the wood and random supplies needed, those who could put some cash together to order 8 pizzas from Dominos for everyone to have lunch (Domino's gave us a discount too), Rod made some new Ojai Skate Park banners that we passed out at the end of the day, we had two Brooks students take photos and also offered to help us with some needed photos for our website and to help us with the skate team, we even had a kid skate board in with his amp and guitar and start jamming, Sondra posted our clean up in the Ojai Valley News and Rob Clement stopped by to take photos too. I hope I didn't forget anyone or anything.

Thanks so much to all of you. Stop by and check out the park it looks great.

I'm going to organize a game of SKATE at the park with prizes if anyone wants to help on December 27th. I need to work out the details still.

Take care,
Sunday

We are on our way to a new beautiful in-ground concrete park. Skate Ojai, the Ojai Recreation Department, the Ojai City Council, Ojai City Manager and Site Design are working hard and meeting weekly to organize the next phase so we can complete the skate park.

We have a couple months of skateboarding at the current Ojai Skate Park before we start building the new park and it's in need of some minor repairs. The park is in use daily and we have a couple of school breaks coming up so I would love to see the skate park in good shape for the skaters and teens that frequent the space.

A clean-up at the skate park to fix a couple spots on the ramps and railing is being organized - plus some general clean-up of the skate park. If your interested in volunteering contact us so we can add you to the list. Each volunteer will need to sign a waiver before they start. We will post them here as soon as we get them and we will bring some that morning too.

The skate park will be closed during our clean-up that day and will re-open as soon as we are finished.

Mark Highlove has volunteered to organize the construction portion of the day. If you would like to help Mark out let us know.

If you are on our list we will email a reminder in a couple weeks. We will be looking for donations of plywood, 2' x 4''s, screws and a couple of other items. Once Mark has a completed list of materials needed I will let everyone know the specific items.
