What do 12 Ojai boys, 3 Parents, 15 Cliff bars, 6 Gallons of water, 1 big bag of candy, 40 minute road trip, 1 Taco bell run, 4 Hours, a bunch of smiles and laughs, 5 PB&J's and bag of fruit equal? A great day of fun, skateboarding at the new Fillmore Skate Park! See the Pics »

Moe and Sunday organized a road trip yesterday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day to the new 22,000 sq. foot skate park in Fillmore. Anyone who wanted to go met us at the Ojai skate park at 9:00 am. and they all drove out to Fillmore, 15 People all together. Sunday was impressed to see 12 kids sitting and waiting at the Ojai skate park at 8:45 in the morning half awake to go on a skateboarding road trip. The kids skated for a couple hours and then they headed home. A lot of the kids said they learned new tricks because of all the new features they were able to practice on. Five of the Ojai skate team members came for the day too. Moe and Sunday watched as they shredded up the flow zone and stairs. The skate team is really talented and this was an opportunity to practice for the upcoming competitions that start in March.

They also had the opportunity to meet and talk with locals who are very proud of their new park as well as other parents who brought their kids and friends from all over southern California to check out the new park. After talking to several parents and grandparents you can sense that there is a large movement in many towns across California to build skate parks for the kids. California Skate Parks did an excellent job on the Fillmore skate park. They also found out that right next to the skate park they will have a huge bmx course

It was so much fun the kids asked if they could do this again. Here are a couple shots from yesterday. The park is open even though they still need to finish the landscaping. The park is 22,000 sq. feet and includes a beginner, intermediate and advance section with benches for parents to sit on through out the skate park. The locals were very welcoming….no vibing at all. There is no bathroom right now so you have to go to a near by business.

If anyone is interested in helping with rides next time send me an email. They almost didn't have enough cars and it turns out some kids came a little late and missed us. So, it's obvious the kids are really interested in skateboarding at a good skate park, plus the skate team really needs the practice. The first competition is an 8 step/rail and Ojai doesn't have on. Thanks to 5 Points skate shop in Ventura they were able to pay for the skate teams gas from the stickers they sold for us in the shop.
